I am in the middle of writing a new study on prayer for our Wednesday night group, Healthy Hearts Healthy Homes.  That means, for me, that writing other things has become more difficult.

So, a new tactic for the blog.

I am going to try to be more consistent by making the posts more immediate and related to either my personal devotions or the study I am doing on prayer. We’ll see how this works for a bit.

This morning’s reading was Psalm 37. God desires for us to be in relationship with Him. He desires it so much, He has done everything required for us, as unholy as we are, to be able to come into His Holy Presence. He gave His only Son so that we could be made holy – just like Him – and have fellowship with Him.

Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.

When the Bible speaks of living in the land it is talking about living in His Presence. For the children of Israel in the Old Testament, the land was a literal place that was given to them by God, but they could only get there by following Him there in faith and could only stay in the land as they lived out that faith in His Presence.

Be still in the Presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for Him to act.

Today, we live in the land as we daily walk out our faith in His Presence. Faith, trust, belief… are all active, not passive. It is not a mental assent. Faith requires action; faith is tenacious as we stand our ground in what we believe about the character of God. Need to test your faith? Just look at how you actually respond in the face of troubles and trials and the brokenness of this world. Do your responses demonstrate true belief that God is good at all times? Do your troubles reveal that you love and trust Him even in the midst of the attacks of enemy designed to cause confusion and doubt?

The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.

Do you hear that? If you are His child, the LORD delights in every detail of your life. There is nothing that can separate you from His love. Your focus can be drawn elsewhere, and your choices can cause you to not feel His love, but you are not separated from His love.

Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust Him, and He will help you.

Delight. What a wonderful thing!

Will you choose to delight in Him and to receive His delight in you?
