One of my favorite houses on one of my favorite walking trails with one of my favorite people on an absolutely gorgeous Northwest Washington spring day.
This house and the garden so make me homesick for England and take me back years to a time filled with wonderful memories. I would love to take an extended trip to Capernwray and the Lake District and up into the Scottish Highlands and then over to Northern Ireland.
Oh, to be able to eat real fish and chips from the local chippie – in newspaper, smothered in vinegar and salt – while sitting on a bench and looking out over the water. And to be able to follow old trails to old stomping grounds and enjoy a cuppa and a mouth-watering dessert in The Mews. To walk with old friends who followed their own paths while I have been following mine and to catch up and hear all that God has done in their lives. To walk the hills in the Lake District and come back down and enjoy a meal and a pint and then off to the bed-and-breakfast to snuggle down under the comforter and sip hot chocolate and giggle and share dreams and hopes and discoveries of faith well into the night and the early hours of the morning – only to arise to the aroma of freshly cooking bacon and eggs and porridge and a hot, fresh pot of tea.
Amazing what nostalgia a stone exterior and a thatched roof will bubble to the surface. A longing heart reminded of wonderful memories, hopes for the future, and the joy of remembering God’s faithfulness every step of life.
